May 6th, 2005 Cocktails - The Limon Skyy
Shake together, strain into a cocktail glass. Lemon slice for a garnish. PayPal Is Selling My E-Mail Address - Someone at PayPal sold the e-mail I gave them to a spammer. I got a Viagra & Cialis sales ad addressed to my PayPal address. Grrr. Their privacy policy states clearly that "PayPal will not sell or rent any of your personally identifiable information to third parties." I guess its time to close the PayPal account. Noah Webster, please pick up the white paging phone - Courtesy of /. comes a NYT story on the debate over teaching evolution in the schools of Kansas. New standards have been proposed that would change the standards used in teaching science in general and biology in particular. From the article, emphasis added:
What's the problem with the second, newer definition? If anything, its a more complete, clear, precise, and accurate definition than what it replaces. The old definition does not clarify its use of the word, "natural", "observe", or "explanations". The new definition does, by explaining how those pieces fit together to create a better result. But the evolutionists in the Slashdot comment pits are upset because they see it as the means by which creationist beliefs can be taught. In their zeal to demonize creationist beliefs & their proponents they sacrifice improvement in learning for the sake of their own prejudices. A sad state of affairs. I know I'll catch heat from the Catholic readers of this blog, but I think they can understand what I'm about to say: I view the evolutionists in /. as the Catholic church persecuting Martin Luther for heresy, yet Luther's only response is to say "show me how what I've said is wrong and I'll renounce it, but show me with truth." The truth is in the new definition, not the outdated dogma it replaces. Passing The Torch - David Hackworth, military commentator, advocate, and soldier, died this past Wednesday. He was 74. He is distinguished by, among other things, his service to the military beyond his active duty, as a war correspondent and a soldier advocate. He died of bladder cancer, a common ailment among Vietnam veterans exposed to a defoliant known as Agent Blue (distinct from Agent Orange).
As the old generations pass, the new ones take up their colors, fighting the old enemies, though they may wear the guise of something new. |
