May 4th, 2005 Random thought - Our airpower has grown so overwhelming, and our enemies are so weak, that over the course of the past 30+ years it has become easier to obtain the Medal of Honor (three occasions) than to shoot down five airplanes in combat and become an ace (0 occasions). Wow. Of course, you could say the two occasions are equally difficult - the Air Force Medal of Honor has been awarded zero times in the past 30 years. But regardless, the Medal of Honor is the more prestigious award. Air Farce Academy - The USAFA is in the news, with allegations the faculty and staff have pressured cadets to convert to evangelical Christianity. I'm doubtful of the claims. Granted, I applied and was turned down as a cadet there, and I've only been there twice (once on a road trip to Ft. Collins). However, The longer trip I took over a weekend in high school included a Sunday morning service at the most beautiful and futuristic chapel I've ever seen (USNA Chapel included). Including the cadets participating in the service, myself, and my parents, I think the total number of people there was 15, approximately one person per pew for the first half of one side of the chapel. Count me as skeptical. Unknown Blog - I was going to do The Darth Side: Memoirs of a Monster, but then I learned that he had been Slashdotted, which means its a known blog. Grrr. So off I go to peruse the Slimy Molluscs list and lo and behold, I find another Steelers fan - Heels, Sox, Steelers, a sports blog. Sure to aggravate Hugh Hewitt, but then, he's not really good at picking quality football teams. |
