The Democratic Underground And Stereotypes - The news that Jerry Falwell is in the hospital struggling with viral pneumonia has brought out predictable tendencies in the Democratic Underground.

It has also brought out pleasant unexpected surprises. Say what you want about the Angry Left, but there are a few in that group that can constrain vicious thoughts they have. I wish they were more vocal in their constituency.

If there's a problem with Falwell, its in his delivery, not his message. There's more truth in how he speaks it than love. Balancing those two is the toughest thing to do for those who preach the Word of God. Favoring truth when love is needed makes people feel as if God has rejected them. Favor love when truth is needed and people think they can water down the word whenever it makes them feel uncomfortable.

Terri - If you read one chapter from the book of Proverbs every day you will read the entire book twelve times a year. It seems appropriate to me, today, that you read these two verses:

(8) Open your mouth for the mute, For the rights of all the unfortunate. (9) Open your mouth, judge righteously, And defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.

The More Things Change... - There was a report on Fox this morning, before Terri Schiavo died, about the CIA being "simply wrong" about the WMD in Iraq, as if we needed another reminder of that. Since Fox moved it off their front page before I could get a link, you'll have to settle for the CNN story.

To express my sentiments about the state of affairs at Langley, I quote from the sage of the Naval War of 1812, Theodore Roosevelt. Referring to the sacking of Washington, DC in that conflict he writes:

They teach us nothing new; it is the old, old lesson, that a miserly economy in preparation may in the end involve a lavish outlay of men and money, which after all, comes too late to offset the evils produced by the original short-sighted parsimony.

An old lesson indeed. This is what happens when you cut the CIA budget for seven years, then think you can just throw money at the problem and make it go away.

Speaking of the CIA... (Red Rabbit Spoiler Alert) - Next thing we'll find out, a CIA agent named Jack Ryan really did have a gun to the back of the KGB agent in St. Peter's Square. Does this news come as a surprise to anyone?

Poetry - Don't forget, the Carnival of Poets is April 15th, submissions due the day before. Today's verse is a limerick.

There once was an analyst named Ryan
Whose exploits would bring claims "you're lyin'!"
Though great was his glory
its all just a story
But we still count him an American Lion

Playing With Words - Fox News had a report on this morning about a man in Plano, TX whose car was in an accident and caught fire. Fox claimed "Good Samaritans" rescued the man. I want to know about the Bad Samaritans, and how people from Samaria got into the United States in the first place. Are they guest workers? Infiltrates with Al Qaeda trying to destroy our freedom? What's going on here? Why won't Fox report the news?!?!?!
