February 24th, 2005 A pondering for you - Let's define slavery as a 100% taxation on labor wages. What would a 20% tax be? Poetry - There's the chance for money in this poetry stuff. I think I'll submit the Intelligence poem. No other poetry today, I'm running dry in the creativity tank. Terry Schiavo - I'll be brief. The Government's purpose is to protect the innocent and punish the guilty. Terry has committed no crime, therefore, deserves no punishment. Her feeding should continue. Her husband Michael has been accused of not authorizing the treatment the doctors say could improve her condition. This borders on criminal negligence, and without a doubt is cruelty. His claim that she doesn't want to live in a comatose condition is inapplicable and unsubstantiated. First, she responds to certain stimulations, hardly the behavior of a person in a coma. Though it may be a coma medically, there is certainly room for hope that she could recover. Second, since she left no written directions there is no substance to his claim, besides his own earnestness. The fact that Michael has a mistress and has moved on with his life indicates that a divorce is in order, not a state-sanctioned murder. Without any direction from Terry herself the state is not in a place to allow her to starve to death. It is, however, in a place to order doctors to treat her as they see best fit, in the hope that she will recover from her condition. Anything beyond this, or short of it, is both outside the law and outside what's right. Smart Humor Is Best - Tumbleweeds. |
