Super Bowl - All ads are available here. My favorites (as in funniest) were the guy on the cell phone in the convenience store and the CareerBuilder.com monkey business ads. The look on Roethlisberger's face in the "Tomorrow" ad was priceless, but you have to remember: when everyone's undefeated it just means you haven't had a chance to show how much you stink.

The classiest one was the Budweiser welcome home ad thank-you card. A refreshing change from 35 years ago.

The Patriots played to win, and they deserved their victory. The Eagles couldn't connect when they needed, and it cost them. It was an enjoyable, if disappointing, game.

Voyager 2 Stamp, US, 29 cents from 1991The Other Pale Blue Dot - Voyager 2 was launched before I turned one and passed Neptune August 8th, 1989. I was almost 13. The local PBS station covered the event - you can trust PBS to put on the stuff that interests the fewest people at the strangest times. Because of the Earth's position and the desire to air the coverage live the show started in the evening and went on all night. We recorded the entire thing on a VHS tape, all eight hours.

I was in a time of life where I was thoroughly interested in space travel. Since it wasn't a school night my parents let me stay up until about 4 AM, listening to David Levy, Jack Horkheimer and others talk all about how this was a most interesting encounter, how Triton was a very intriguing satellite, etc. etc. I was amazed, personally, that a planet farther from the sun than Uranus could have a more active atmosphere, even to the point of having a hurricane in its cloud system. It fascinated me that most of the images were black & white, though I knew at the time that those images were combined to form the color shots.

We still have the tape, and as soon as I get it from my parents house I'm having it converted to DVD, so as to keep it around for a while longer. Neptune is the one planet (if you don't count Pluto) that I haven't been able to find with my own telescope. I might as well keep around some means of seeing it.

Quickies on the News - Hugh Hewitt has come up with the best name yet: "CNN, the most busted name in news". Heh. Eason's Fables are being covered best by Michelle Malkin, who had two interviews with interested parties: Barney Frank and David Gergen. If you haven't read either of those posts, do so. Then go catch up on what's been happening with CNN's "Dan Moment".

Does the Pope remind anyone of a character in the Monty Python skit? "I'm not dead! I don't want to go on the cart!"

The Diplomad has made his blog into the online version of the US Embassy in Teheran, circa 1979. Time to update the blogroll.

Dean in charge of the DNC? There's nothing like pressure to cause a man to change, though some are stubborn enough to resist it until they are crushed. Funny, though, he won it by the opposing candidates dropping out, not by actually being voted in. Telling, if not outright prognosticating, about the nature of the Democratic party.
