January 28th, 2005 Hear Hear - The Weekly Standard has an open letter from several high-profile bloggers and retired military to the leaders in the House and Senate. It asks for an increase in the size of the Army and Marines of "at least 25,000 troops each year over the next several years." I wholeheartedly agree. Don't Get Snookered - Today's drink is the Long Island Ice Tea. Take half a shot each of light rum, gin, vodka, and tequila. Stir together with Coke and lemon or lime juice in a tall glass. Serve over ice. I almost clobbered my roommates once with this one. I asked if anyone, like myself, wanted a Long Island. A total of four orders came, so I started mixing. But instead of half a shot each I put in two shots, completely forgetting the proper ratio. I knew something was wrong when the alcohol came up to just below the top of the glass. My roommate Jeff came in, noticed me staring at them and wondered the same thing I did. "Jeremy," Jeff called, knowing he would know what was going on, "could you come here for a sec?" "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?! It's two shots total!" Thankfully, we were of like mind as brothers, each looking out for the other. That's what you're supposed to do - drink with friends, safely, each watching so the other doesn't get drunk. The goal is to have fellowship, not to get juiced. You're Fired for leaking last nights Apprentice results - Last night's Apprentice was remarkable in that it had much more humility than I expected. First, Danny humbles himself and dresses to impress, despite the fact that he probably hated that suit. Second, Verna nearly walks off and then returns, volunteering herself to be fired if they lose the task. Finally, Brian admits at the beginning of the Boardroom that he was not a good leader and says he would fire himself if he were in Trump's shoes. I like how Trump let that comment slide, in order to see how the rest of the team felt - and get them to react to one another. It was a way of probing for weaknesses, to see who was made of what. It was very effective, in that it caused Angie to show what she was made of, as well as Chris. It's going to be very interesting the next 14 weeks. |
