First things first - Take chilled raspberry vodka (2½ measures) and peppermint schnapps (½ measure) and shake. Pour into a cocktail glass and garnish with a fruit (raspberries or strawberries). It's a raspberry mint-tini. Experiment by switching fruit garnishes and flavored (strawberry?) vodkas. Enjoy responsibly (i.e. don't. get. drunk.)

On Bloggers, Full Disclosure, CBS, and Armstrong Williams - Armstrong Williams is paid by the Dept. of Education to shill for the NCLB Act and the press goes into an uproar (despite the appearance that no tangible benefit has come to the White House from their $240K payment). Markos Zuniga and Jerome Armstrong get paid by the Dean campaign and the press yawns. Meanwhile, Kos and Armstrong both denounce Bush for the Williams shill.

[Ring Ring] Hello, Pot? This is Kettle. YOU'RE BLACK! [Click]

From the WSJ article:

A spokeswoman for Mr. Dean said the two bloggers hired by the campaign did nothing unethical because both disclosed their connection to the Dean operation.

Horse apples. It was unethical because they did not disclose their connections at the time they were made. They disclosed only after the announcement was made by Zonkette, and I doubt they would have done so without being prodded. This behavior is as disgusting as Armstrong Williams', yet Williams is called unethical. Meanwhile, despite the RatherGate report, the Big Media continues to ignore the Blogosphere. When will they learn? We have big stories that break over here.

If bloggers want to be journalists, how is it that they want to deny the ethics of the job? I argue that the ethics include both transparency in personal opinion and in monetary influence. Big Media claims to be neutral in personal opinion - utter bull, yet even they are willing to disclose their monetary influence ("Turner Broadcasting, the parent company of this network..." is often heard on CNN's Headline News). Everyone can be bought and sold, but some people's price is higher than others. I have no problem with bloggers or Big Media announcing their monetary contributors, just as I have no problem with them announcing their own personal bias. It's called honesty.

To that extent:

  1. I have never accepted or solicited money from any political or commercial person, entity, or nation in return for writing positive things about them at MM.net.
  2. I have never accepted or solicited money from any political or commercial person, entity, or nation in return for writing negative things about any other political or commercial person, entity, or nation at MM.net.
  3. I have doubts as to whether or not I would accept such contributions.

To close my thoughts on the Armstrong Williams issue, everyone who contributed to and approved that bright idea should be fired. GWB's comments on the matter are both appropriate and clear.

Modern Logic and Military Apples - Speaking of Kos, his author Armando seems to believe the New York Times when they say Iraq is a training ground for terrorists. True, the article does come from the National Intelligence Council, a government agency, but still: no one ever accused the NY Times and government bureaucracies of being the brightest crayons in the box. It strikes me as odd that Iraq would be the terrorist training ground; a terrorist would want to train in an area where there is a low probability that his training would be interrupted by swarming hordes of the 25th Infantry Division.

To quote from the NYT article:

Beyond military force, the report advocates the promotion of education and political and economic development across the Muslim world.

How is that different that what we are doing in Afghanistan and Iraq? Oh, wait, we're actually building schools, holding elections, and forgiving debt, not holding meetings and making agreements for consultations that result in committees being formed for the purpose of analyzing and mediating between third- and fourth-party political factions.

You shall know them by their fruits. According to the measures set out by the NIC, the GWOT is going well.

The Bow-Chicka-Bow-Wow Bomb - The Pentagon was investigating the use of chemical weapons that, among other things, produced homosexual tendencies, bad breath, sensitive skin, and attracted vermin and pests.

In other words, it turned its targets into Ron Jeremy.

Something with a little more taste - We have landed a probe on Titan. Isn't science wonderful?
