Why I vote the way I do
Watch Out

I know I said yesterday I wouldn't post anything political, but if there's one lesson we can learn from the blogosphere participation in the 2004 race its that participation is key to bringing about your values in government. Only post on politics today. Honest. From Dad via e-mail:

In the movie, 1776, as Ben Franklin said to John Adams during the debate on the draft Declaration, as South Carolinan John Rutledge stood up to ask a question: "Watch out."

Arlen Specter warns Bush on judicial appointments. "Don't be too conservative in your appointments", he says. "Don't forget that Roe v. Wade is the law of the land", he says. WRONG. The Constitution is the law of the land, and that document alone gives him the authority and mandate to appoint conservative judges - because they are the ones that care enough to not make the Constitution a relativistic document. He also insults the current justices by saying this:

A former district attorney, Specter also bemoaned what he called the lack of any current justices comparable to legal heavyweights like Oliver Wendell Holmes, Louis Brandeis, Benjamin Cardozo and Thurgood Marshall, "who were giants of the Supreme Court."

"With all due respect to the (current) U.S. Supreme Court, we don't have one," he said.

Silly me. I thought pride & vanity were mostly limited to the other side of the aisle.

I'm writing to John McCain & John Kyl later today, asking them to not put Arlen Specter in charge of the Judicial Committee. Who are you contacting?
