More WMD Reports From Syria

Looks like the Baathists in Syria just took the place of their bretheren in Iraq on the Axis of Evil list.

Nizar Nayuf (Nayyouf-Nayyuf), a Syrian journalist who recently defected from Syria to Western Europe and is known for bravely challenging the Syrian regime, said in a letter Monday, January 5, to Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf,” that he knows the three sites where Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) are kept. The storage places are:
  1. Tunnels dug under the town of al-Baida near the city of Hama in northern Syria...
  2. The village of Tal Snan, north of the town of Salamija, where there is a big Syrian air force camp. Vital parts of Iraq's WMD are stored there.
  3. The city of Sjinsjar on the Syrian border with the Lebanon, south of Homs city.
If this is true, Turkey should apologize to the world for pandering to the French and denying the 4th Infantry Division access to Iraq across its borders. With the 4ID coming down from the north, any WMD Hussein was trying to get out of his country would have been cut off. As it appears, Turkey's denial not only may have let the WMD get out but, on the brighter side, also may unintentionally bring down the Baathists in Syria.

One can only hope so, therefore: vote Bush, because you know that without a confession and invitation from Syria Kerry won't go in there to get them.

Update 1300 12Oct2004: DebkaFile has an interesting article on the recent purge in the Syrian military. Although the story is from June it is not irrelevant. Remember that Stalin committed bloody purges in the 1930s and paid the price for it when Hitler invaded - his replacements had no experience and no ability to lead whatsoever, therefore Hitler was able to roll up almost the entire eastern part of the USSR. This little bit of info is important to know for anyone planning an invasion of Syria - whether its an armchair general or a colonel-grade officer creating a top-secret briefing for the President and the military.
