Intelligence

A sonnet about intelligence gathering and espionage, from the one whose neck is on the line.

Not in darkness, but silently, I work
to leak my country's secrets.
Between light and dark I stealthily lurk
to halt the shrouded affrets.

False allegiance I pledge but know it you would not,
I blend in and peek behind the veil.
Betrayal? Hah! Tis an impeachment full of rot,
I spare mothers of soldiers from wails.

My government is pernicious, conniving and corrupt,
my 'enemy's' ideals goad my actions.
Manipulate my government from the innermost up,
bringing peace by information transaction.

Handlers give me cash, which I do not rue,
but I wonder - who else thinks as I do?
