Margins of Victory

Arizona's primary was yesterday. We selected, mostly by wide margins, the ballot occupiers for this upcoming November election. Most of the races were uncontested, but the most interesting in all of Pima County was the Congress District 8 Republican battle. It pitted Conservative Randy Graf against Moderate Jim Kolbe.

Graf, according to the ads he puts out, is straight-laced in his conservatism. Kolbe, according to the voting record, is conservative on taxes and budgeting but liberal on social issues. Kolbe fully supports abortion, Graf fully opposes it.

According to the results, Kolbe won, 27,125 votes (59.19%) to 18,672 (40.74%), a difference of 8,453. I voted at 1800 hours last night. At that time the voting location I was assigned to had processed 109 ballots.

If my readers in Tucson don't want to be represented by Kolbe, you'd better get out and vote next time the opportunity comes around.

Here's another treatise on voting if you need more encouragement.
