Of patents and AKs

So it turns out that everyone is copying the AK-47, but that is making the Russians mad.
HT: The Commissar.

And to think, I could get a full-auto AK from Jordan for only $60, instead of spending $370 at the local shop for a semi-only one. Except for having to smuggle it in and explain the Jordanian stamp on my passport, I think it could work. Anyway, the Russians don't have a leg to stand on. It was the communists who usurped the design from Kalashnikov and then gave the design to all their satellite countries. The communists caused the proliferation of the AK-47. The whining from the Russians seems to show more that they have nothing new to create, instead of showing that they are willing to again be original in their designs.

Of course, the issue of the US issuing captured AKs to friendly Iraqis seems to be a financially shrewd and militarily astute move. They're cheaply obtained, and the troops are easily trained. Since its so simple, it makes for rapidly fielded troops. A wise choice, probably initiated by some field level officer. Its a good thing that his higher-ups listened to the idea.
