Today's Review Of The News

The French have joined the new Warsaw Pact. They're conducting military exercises with a communist country. And you thought the Cold War was over.

Dominique de Villepin (who is a man) claims the world is a more dangerous place. He's referring to Iraq, not China and France. Not that France contributes anything to the lethality of the Chinese Navy, but instead to their legitimacy.

Maybe the successful conclusion to this, this, and this will convince him otherwise. Of course, I'm not sure that a Frenchman would feel safe with a Pole on the job, despite the fact that the Poles put up more of a fight than the French the last time Europe descended into open chaos. Give me Belvedere Vodka over Grey Goose any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Oh, and France wants the EU arms embargo against the Chinese lifted, despite the fact that Tiananmen Square protesters are still in jail. That was the event that triggered the embargo.

PER'FIDY, n. [L. perfidia; per and fides, faith.] The act of violating faith, a promise, vow or allegiance; treachery; the violation of a trust reposed. Perfidy is not applied to violations of contracts in ordinary pecuniary transactions, but to violations of faith or trust in friendship, in agency and office, in allegiance, in connubial engagements, and in the transactions of kings.

Speaking of Perfidy...
Spain & Mr. Bean?
... and speaking of separated at birth:
Sam the Eagle and Brit Hume: twins?

In sports, it sure didn't take long this year.

The world is a big neighborhood with a gang problem. After one of these gangs blew up our house and killed a bunch of our family members, Bush said "enough is enough", pledged to fight the gangs and run them out of town, and immediately commenced to kicking some gang ass.

Meanwhile, France is the scared old woman down the street who wants to "leave 'em be... you'll only stir up more trouble." Sorry grandma, no can do. You just go back to your basement and let the menfolk take care of things. Again. I mean, really... if everyone had de Villepin's attitude, we'd all be speaking German right now. De Villepin, you big goober.

BTW, good call on Sam the Eagle/Brit Hume as separated twins. But don't overlook the obvious Gonzo/Paul Begala connection.
