Suffrage for 14 year olds!

California lawmakers propose lowering voting age to 14 for state elections
Only in California.

Favorite quotes:

  • "When we gave the vote to those who didn't own property, then to women, then to persons of all colors, we added to the richness of our democratic dialogue and our own nation's integrity and its model for the world," - State Sen. John Vasconcellos, the stereotypical left wing legislator bringing out the stereotypical civil rights reference.
  • "There's a reason why 14-year-olds and 16-year-olds don't vote. They are not adults. They are not mature enough. They are easily deceived by political charlatans." - Assemblyman Ray Haynes, pointing out what should be obvious to anyone who follows pop culture.
  • "If we could vote, politicians would see us as votes, not just kids, and they would take our issues seriously," Robert Reynolds, Berzerkley H.S. student, in an unusually deep liberal mentality fog. Hey, Bobbie Boy, Rep. Grijalva doesn't take my issues seriously, and I vote.

What was that old saying? Oh, yeah: Age & Guile Beat Youth, Innocence, and a Bad Haircut.

I'm all for this, then we can re-institute the draft and lower the draft age to 14 too!

I can see the world shaking in their boots at the thought of fighting our 14 year olds.

Does that mean 14 year olds will be burning their draft cards as well as their joints, just like their (grand?)parents did in Vietnam?
