Checkmate!

"My emotions are bizarre. For this to have happened is amazing. This scenario never entered my mind," Mrs. Feinstein said.

Old news, but I just have to comment on it. What else is a blog for, anyway?

Mine are too, senator. First, I hear the bad news that your "assault" weapons ban extension amendment to S.1805 passed. My mood darkened and my face soured. Then, browsing the blogosphere, I come across Geek with a .45, who is celebrating and shouting "AW BAN DEAD!" Being the naturally curious type, I start surfing the news sites but found nothing. Was the Geek on crack? Lo and behold, no!

I don't want to play chess with Senator Larry Craig of Idaho. First, he allows so many anti-gun amendments to be bolted on to his useful gun industry protection bill that it stands no chance in the House. Then, in a surprise shocker, he takes aim at his own bill, saying it is fundamentally wounded. Suddenly, Republicans have a reason to vote against it (too restrictive of individuals), and Democrats have a reason to vote against it (not restrictive enough against gun manufacturers). Down it dives in flames, to the frabjous joy of weapons owners everywhere. Craig opened up his queen side, drew out the opposition from their defensive positions, then exposed his rook while attacking the enemy queen. An outstanding move, and one that should draw the admiration of Kasparov and company.

  • Trigger Finger has a sequence of events available.
  • The Washington Times has a full story.
  • I have a back-and-forth with R.J. Pestritto here. My resonse to his comment? He has a point in saying that the courts are unreliable. However, given that the a-w ban is a direct attack against the individual's right to own a gun and the lawsuits are indirect (since new gun manufacturers can be created), I still think the a-w ban is the more immediate problem. Besides, the gun industry protection bill can be reintroduced.
I have a long list of things I want to buy come this September. I can't wait, but unfortunately, I have to.

Oh, by the way: John Kerry, the haughty, French-looking Massachucetts Democrat who, by the way, served in Vietnam, voted for the gun control amendments.

Just FYI.
