Learn to use the language

Seems Disney is now on the lets-bash-NJ wagon (along with just about everyone else). From The Lion King 1 1/2 DVD, we get this quote in response to a New Jersey joke:

Nancy Byrne, head of the state's Travel and Tourism Office, calls the joke "silly, unfounded and not funny."
Um, I hate to break it to ya sister, but "silly" and "funny" mean the same thing, so you're just encouraging more jokes about your home state.

YAY

I'm "everyone else"!

(Obviously this lady has not spent time in New York or Pennsylvania.)

Most people will just accept whatever they see on TV.

Here's another one, similar but not related: if you find yourself with a little time, drop into your nearest fast food joint and see how many times you hear somebody ask an employee to read the menu for them. "How much is...?" It's not as if they can't read the opposite-of-fine print hanging five feet away. They just ignore it. Byrne may know about "silly" and "funny", but not see any benefit in paying attention. She is going to be on TV, after all.

In fairness, though, maybe she would have caught it if she had the time (which I doubt) to think about it before she gave it.

Or I could be entirely too generous about the whole thing

Personally, I think she just spoke before she thought.
