I'm Engaged!
Twitterpated, adj: 1) to be completely enamored with someone/something. 2) the flighty exciting feling you get when you think about/see the object of your affection. 3) romantically (ahem)excited (i.e.: aroused) 4) the ever increasing acceleration of heartbeat and body temperature as a result of being engulfed amidst the exhilaration and joy of being/having a romantic entity in someone's life.
Last Friday, January 9th, I asked Jennifer Dannemiller to marry me. She said yes.
We had dinner at the Arizona Inn. We arrived and went for a short stroll, right up to the fountain in the middle of the grounds. On the bench beside the fountain I had arranged for pink rose petals to be strewn, and we sat for a bit, chatting.
That lasted for about a minute before I dropped to one knee and proposed. She said "Yes!". I asked her to dance, and she said yes to that too, so Steve Tyrell crooned out "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To", while we slowly twirled out a circle. A waitress brought two glasses of champagne, which we sipped after some more dancing.
Dinner was chicken for me and salmon for her, with a couple Iron Chef-like appetizers beforehand. They didn't call them appetizers though, they were accoutreboushles or some other fancy French word. They were tasty and very schwanky looking. Our room was occupied by just us, but the piano in the bar next door provided plenty of music.
Like the tune from American Tale (the cartoon movie with Feivel), a smattering of the Beatles, and a tune or two from Sleeping Beauty.
We thoroughly enjoyed dinner, then went to my place for a reception put on by our roomates. After that I took her home and returned to my place.
We've known each other for about ten years, dating in high school. We decided to not date in college because we wanted to focus on our individual relationships to God and our studies. After college we both stayed in Tucson with our church, not really dating. After a while I began to get the sense that God wanted us to get married. After much prayer about it I finally told one of the pastors in our church that I felt God had spoken to me to marry Jennifer, and asked him what he thought about it. He said that was great, that we would make a great couple, and that she also had a word from God to marry me. We began to date a few weeks ago and it culminated in Friday's dinner.
My favorite part of the weekend (aside from spending time with Jennifer) was watching the reactions of her girlfriends to the story. They especially liked the rose petals and dancing part.
But then, as long as Jennifer did, I'm happy.
