Best of the best and worst of the worst

The official fiddle player of mm.net has a new album out, Bach Concertos. It is up to her typically high technical standards, and she excels once again with bow and strings.

Some reviewers on Amazon have said that she is too technical, too fast, and too unemotional. I disagree. The pieces on this newest disk are fast, technically difficult, and do not draw out the more sensitive emotions of the human heart. However, one just has to listen to this album and the Barber & Meyer disk to realize that she can play the full range of emotional music, and that her technical skill does not detract from her ability to play emotionally moving pieces; rather, it enhances it.

She plays with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra on this album, and given the fires currently burning around Los Angeles and SoCal I could make a crass joke about the difference between violas & violins but I won't. Margaret Batjer joins HH as the 2nd violin in the Double Violin Concerto. Allan Vogel plays oboe in the Concerto for Oboe, Violin, Strings, and Continuo in C minor. Both excel at their parts, and I look forward to other pieces pairing HH with gifted musicians. Are you listening, Yo Yo Ma?

On the other side of the musical quality spectrum, Daler Mehndi is back with Mo Jaan Laen Do, his newest album. Who's he, you ask? Oh, you remember: Tunak Tunak Tun, Tunak Tunak Tun, Tunak Tunak Tun, Da Da Da!
