Ignorance and SysAdmins
From: The Dark Cabal that Controls Everything
To: Luddites & Secretaries
Subject: Your Ignorance
Hey everyone,
This is just a friendly note from DCTCE. It has come to our attention that several SysAdmins and I.T. professionals have seen unusual and disturbing behavior in their workplaces recently, especially behavior that shows a willing embrace of ignorance. Although we at DCTCE are understanding of ignorance, we are not willing to let it remain once discovered.
In particular, one SysAdmin noted that a particular Secretary Office Assistant Professional Office Manager Secretary uttered the following phrase:
I don't want to learn anything new!
Their computer had just been upgraded and was behaving slightly differently than it had in the past. This new behavior resulted in their having to press 2 more keys in order to get the view they needed of a particular folder. Granted, this is an annoyance, but the SysAdmin assigned to the task was completely unable to change the behavior because they couldn't change the program. That is beside the point.
IN THIS WORLD, YOU HAVE TO LEARN A THING OR TWO FROM TIME TO TIME. WHINING ABOUT IT DOES NOT HELP, AND ONLY AGGRAVATES THE SYSADMIN.
We at DCTCE understand that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, especially in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use it wisely. However, if ignorance is not corrected when it is discovered, it becomes stupidity after repeated practice. Since stupidity bugs the aytch-eee-double-hockey-sticks out of SysAdmins, we encourage you to take measures in your own lives to eliminate ignorance whenever encountered. For example:
- When encountering something new that you will have to learn, do not say to yourself: "I'm too stupid to understand this."
- When a SysAdmin is giving you instructions in a calm, soothing voice, do not respond with a panicked interruption.
- If you are unclear about how a particular procedure goes, ask questions and repeat the process until you understand it.
Thanks, and have a nice day.
Sincerely,
TDCTCE
