Bad Blogger Gets a New(ish) Car

Yeah, yeah, I know. No posts in 4 days, so get the pitchforks. Sue me. I have a life. And that life includes a new car. I took possession yesterday of a 1996 Ford Explorer, tan(ish) interior and exterior, and it drives very well. I love this thing, especially since it has the one toy I absolutely required in a new car: a remote door lock dongle.

I've lost track of how many times I've walked away from my truck and forgotten if I locked the doors, only to return and discover that I did. Now I just push the magic button and wait for that wonderful ker-chunk sound. It's music to my ears.

What happened to the old truck, you ask? It died. My old faithful began making bad noises early last week, so I took it to Majestic Automotive and had it looked at. He said it was most likely a problem with the oil pump, but that had grown into something more severe. The crankshaft had most likely been damaged, and that was making the bad noise at startup. It required a short block rebuild, which I've done before but don't want to do (as a necessity) anytime soon. I took it home and resolved to get a new car. On Monday the truck refused to start, and I had to get a ride from my roommate. By Thursday I had found the Explorer, had it inspected, checked its title, and agreed to a price with the buyer. We traded title for cash at lunch, and I had a new set of wheels.

Things are good. I am blessed.
