Guns & Ammo
Mom, don't read this!

My mom hates guns. That's why I don't want her to read the following, it would make her upset. I'm thinking of getting another gun.

Right now the contenders are an Olympic Arms .223 Plinker, a Remington 870 express 12 ga. shotgun, or a Thompson/Center Black Diamond XR .50 cal muzzleloader. Each would be used for target shooting, while the shotgun could also be used for home defense when I get married. I'm tending towards the shotgun, but I like the AR-15. What do you guys think?

I'm slowly turning into a Remington fan. A nice history of gunmaking, and they are making some fine rifles. If I was deciding, I'd choose Remington.

I recently acquired a Mossberg 500 12 ga. and love it! It has a short (home defense) barrel and a long (hunting/clay) barrel. Brand new, it was only $220! Try that with an 870! Supposedly TPD uses the Mossberg, so that's good enough for me. The action is a bit stiff right off the shelf, but loosened up nicely after about 50 rounds. But by all means, if you're looking for a family heirloom, go with the 870!
