The Taxman Cometh...

April 15th looms ever closer. Tomorrow I make my 2002 IRA contribution and Friday I file my taxes. Every year I do this (this is my third) I grow more and more grateful for Republicans and more and more unlikely to vote for Democrats.

In the year 2000 I had an adjusted income consisting of only four digits. Granted, I was a student at the time, supported by my parents, and working only part-time (20 hrs/week) for half the year. You could expect that I would have a very low tax rate, if any. (Sarcasm mode on) Why? Well because silly, Bill Clinton was President then and he cares for the poor (Sarcasm mode off).

I was taxed at 15%. No joke.

In 2001 I made a mint compared to 2000. Because of the tax cut George W. Bush pushed through in his first year, I was taxed at a very Biblical 9.78%. For once, perhaps the only time this will occur in my life, my government demanded less of my income than God. I was relatively happy.

This year, I have seen a 26% increase in my AGI, but the effective tax rate has only gone up 1.84%. Granted, this is an unbiblical 11.62% effective rate, but I shudder to think what I would be paying if GWB had not been successful in driving down my taxes.

Given all this, what could anyone offer me as an incentive to vote for a Democrat for president, given their tax record? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Hey, you don't deserve a tax cut.

Your rich!

You need to pay us poor people back for all the money you stole from us.

(See, I can talk in Sarcasm too!)
