Music
Hilary Hahn CDs

I've added a new category, and the first highlight in Music is Hilary Hahn. She's a young (meaning younger than my sister) violinist who has put out five albums in the past few years, each one taking the classical music world by storm. She is quite good as a violinist, and uses her talent to make some really great recordings.

She likes to play contrasting violin concertos that have something in common. Reading through the liner notes gives you an overview of the two violin concertos, explaining how the two are similar, even though they sound very different.

I actually was introduced to this violinist by accident. I got the Barber & Meyer disk (the one in the middle) in the mail from BMG (not Browning Machine Gun) Music "Services" because I hadn't sent back the reply card in time. It sat on my shelf for ages, then I finally opened it and listened. Pretty good stuff, so I sampled some of her other recordings and ordered some more disks. This past week I received the last disk left (Mendelssohn-Shostakovich, last on the right) from Barnes & Noble. Its very good. None of the music is what you would call driving music, but don't hold that against her. It really is wonderful stuff.

So help me be a corporate shill! If you click one of these links and buy the album through Amazon.com, I'll get a cool nickel, and you'll get some very good music.
