Movie Mania 2: The Santa Clause 2

Tim Allen does another respectable job as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus. This is a movie to take a family to, or perhaps a fiance/spouse. However, I don't see how they could make another one, unless its about how he stops being Santa. I took my mom to see it for a Christmas present.

The premise of this movie is that Santa must get married or he must go back to being Scott Calvin. This little surprise gets dropped on him a month before Christmas, which is the deadline for poor Scott. Added to that little detail the elves forgot to tell him is the fact that his son is in trouble at school (stinkin' vandal) and needs a father figure that actually wears pants. Judge Reinhold returns to the part of Dr. Neil Miller, the psychologist who marries Scott's ex-wife.

I can't stand that character. Billy Rosewood was a much better role for him.

Charlie Calvin is in trouble because he likes to protest his principal's anti-Christmas spirit with spray paint in the school gym, lockers, and anywhere else he can. He gets on the naughty list, getting his father's attention, and so Santa must be in two places at once. Since he can't, he puts himself through the toy duplicator, which results in much grief for all involved.

The romance factor in this movie is a little heavier than the standard movie I go to, but that's because Santa must get married. At least it isn't really sappy. A lot of potential strife and angst that is surely present it real divorced families is avoided by depicting Scott, Neil, and Laura (Scott's ex) as being reconciled. I guess that's possible when Santa gives you what you want for Christmas.

Romance: 6/10 (a date movie, I think)
Action: 2/10 (the only points this gets is for a sleigh fight at the end)
Drama: 2/10 (almost no drama to this at all)
Music: 1/10 (I didn't really pay attention to the music, honestly)
Overall: 6/10 A good family movie. I think.
