I don’t always agree with the President…
Bush administration objects to .xxx domains. I can understand one argument against a red light top level domain. Granted, it does provide another outlet for porn to propagate.
How is that any different than .com?
The best thing a .xxx domain can do, though, is provide the mechanism for restricting porn to a particular area of the net. From there, its only two more steps to create a porn-free browsing experience for your children. First, you pass a law that says porn sites must be in the .xxx domain. Second, you create a browser that allows you to prevent access to that domain.
Okay, three steps: you still have to prosecute those who break that law.
Bush should approve of this, then push for a law that requires porn makers to move their registrations to .xxx.
I think the hard part is in step three, if not step two.
With the nasty browser hijackings and such that porn sites (among others) are known for, I just can’t see them peacefully acceding to the law. Also, a lot of porn sites are in foreign countries, and would be unaffected by any U.S. law unless you know something I don’t.
