Japan gets nuked by radiation, we get nuked by stupidity
… and I’m not sure which is worse.
So the government says go out and buy iodide tablets as a worthy precaution.
Idiot. The time to buy iodide tablets, or any emergency supply for that matter, is before the emergency. When Joseph was second in charge of Egypt, he didn’t wait until the famine started to begin saving grain, he stored it when the harvest was good.
Besides, by the time a radioactive cloud gets to the US coast, it will have already decayed into daughter isotopes that are much less dangerous than airborne vaporized Uranium and Plutonium, and that also assumes that those heavy radioactive metals will escape the containment vessel, a point I’m not yet willing to concede has occurred.
Instapundit linked to a post earlier today that observed the media’s coverage of the nuclear crisis seemed to have two settings, ‘No Big Deal’ and ‘ELEVENTYZOMFGCHERNOBYL!’ Neither is a good description of the situation, so before you go off and run about screaming, read this article. It will do everyone a world of good.
Then go donate to the Red Cross or Samaritan’s Purse or something. The Japanese could use the help, you know.
Thank you for posting this information. As a former nuclear plant engineer, I am restraining myself on comments on this debacle in Japan and the utter stupidity of the American press. I have learned my lesson and do not argue with idiots.
