A Declaration of Ignorance

January 1st, 2008 No comments

When in the course of American Events, it becomes necessary for responsible citizens to select one President to replace another, and to empower him with all the responsibilities enumerated in the second article of their Constitution, the study of which is their responsibility, a decent Respect to the history of the Republic requires that they should study the documents which empower them in their duty.

We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that most Americans are ignorant of their past, that they are negligent in the practice of their certain unalienable Rights, that among these are voting, participation in representative government, and the exercise of their first amendment rights.

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed.

That whenever the Form of Government becomes destructive or ignorant of these Ends, it is in the Right and Duty of Americans to alter or abolish it, replacing it with a government more suited in their opinion towards the securing of said rights.

Such has been the behavior of our Republic for centuries, and such a time comes upon us again. Yet with the advent of this time, comes also the exposure of our collective ignorance.

To remedy this problem, we, the editors of MatthewMaynard.net, therefore encourage all readers to mitigate their ignorance, regardless of education, social background, amount of government participation, or any other excuse.

We encourage all Americans to set the goal of reading the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and all its amendments, The Federalist Papers, and the Anti-Federalist Papers, and to do so before the General Election, to be held November 4th.
