My MSM Irritation

November 30th, 2005 No comments

Dear right-wing media pundit,

I saw/heard you yesterday on TV/radio, talking about how the “mainstream” media are generally a bunch of left-wing hucksters who couldn’t tell an unbiased story if their life depended on it.

You are half right about that. They are a bunch of left-wing hucksters. But that very fact means they are not mainstream, so why refer to them as such?

The left-wing of American politics only dominates the Democrat party and the traditional media. They are not in the mainstream of political thought, and should not be treated as such. Any reference to them as “mainstream” makes their ideas appear mainstream, even if they aren’t. Consequently, every time a lefty reporter is called mainstream, it makes someone in the center look extreme.

That’s inaccurate, and as pundits, we should strive for accuracy. The accurate name for traditional media is Big Media, because they are simply that. They are not mainstream.

Sincerely,
Matthew Scott Maynard

P.S. Yes, this does have something to do with my intitials. So what?

Stinkin’ Ecosystem

November 30th, 2005 2 comments

NZ Bear is twiddling with the ecosystem algorithms, so I’m sitting down in the multicellular microorganism land. Grrr.

I shouldn’t gripe. The drop of 7 levels in the course of two weeks without a corresponding drop in daily traffic is disheartening, but at least there’s an explanation for it. And I’m thankful for NZ Bear, as web programming is a difficult and time consuming endeavor, with little thanks given to the programmer. So thanks NZ Bear, I appreciate your work.

As far as this blog goes, as soon as the ratings are stabilized, I’ll post the Unknown Blog of the week feature.
