Calling a spade a spade

Calling a spade a spade

I’m feeling opinionated today, and I had a realization. Not always a good combination, but always a vocal one.

Searching Google results in 57,500 hits for “global war on terror” and 72 for “global war on Al Qaeda”.

Funny, I’ve never heard George W. Bush say the latter phrase, only the former. Yet many in the press and on the left seem to think it should be the latter.

They are wrong. It does not matter who terrorizes America because any terrorist should be stopped.

It does not matter that Al Qaeda struck us on 9-11, except to put them on the target list. It could have been Hezbollah that struck us, for all George W. Bush cares. The result, because of the President’s correct decision, would have been the same: global war against a philosophy of slavery and all those who give agreement to it. In that perspective, it is not surprising that Iraq became the target of American Justice, since photos like the ones here and here indicate that Saddam was a terrorist. His loss of power (and perhaps his life, after a trial) results in less terror in the world.

Good for George.

Our Finest Hour?

History
Our Finest Hour?

On this day in 1940 Winston Churchill gave his “Finest Hour” speech to the House of Commons. He said two things regarding the Dunkirk disaster-turned-miracle which are of particular interest in light of the recently released 9-11 commission report.

I am not reciting these facts for the purpose of recrimination. That I judge to be utterly futile and even harmful. We cannot afford it.

Of this I am quite sure, that if we open a quarrel between the past and the present, we shall find that we have lost the future.

If we can’t agree to fight terror and not each other, we shall lose the global war on terror and the world will, in the words of Churchill, “sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science.” Only instead of perverted science, it is perverted religion that is today’s greatest threat.
