My name … is Muerte

There are some movies that I wonder how I ever missed. Like Fletch, Grosse Pointe Blank, and Raising Arizona. Undercover Blues is one of those. Jeremy rented it from NetFlix and we watched it tonight. It’s hilarious.

The War Ends

The War Ends

Since CENTCOM has declared that the fighting is “essentially over”, I’ve decided to remove the War Clock from the sidebar. This conflict, though not completely finished, has lasted approximately 25 days. That’s less time than it took the Germans to invade France, and approximately how long the Poles held out against the Germans in World War 2. Laptop Disassembly 101

Laptop Disassembly 101

My laptop power connector doesn’t connect, so the battery can’t charge. I’ve been anticipating this problem might happen, so when it didn’t start charging this morning I decided to take corrective action. I disassembled the laptop so I can get to the power connector and resolder it onto the motherboard.

No, I’m not crazy.

I’ve done this before with tower motherboards, but this is my first attempt with a laptop. Right now, it sits in pieces on my desk at work, waiting for the soldering iron. Which is at home. So far the only damage I’ve inflicted is a separated wire on the cooling fan, which is easy to fix. I hope.

Today is National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day

GWB signed a proclamation yesterday making this National Former POW Recognition Day. Mark it on your calendars. These men and women have been through a very personal hell, many of them earning various valor medals as well as the POW medal, shown below. Thank God for them today, and pray that the POWs from this and other wars that are not home yet come home soon.

  • The Proclamation
  • The current list of POWs from this war
  • The POW Medal, awarded to all US Military personnel that were held as POWs since the US started fighting.

Work
“Make us look like everyone else, but different”

At work I maintain the company webpage. We are doing a redesign and we had a group meeting yesterday. We were browsing other web pages to get an idea of what we want, but no consensus was forming. Finally my boss says “Make us look like everyone else, but different”.

Ugh.

The Taxman Cometh…

April 15th looms ever closer. Tomorrow I make my 2002 IRA contribution and Friday I file my taxes. Every year I do this (this is my third) I grow more and more grateful for Republicans and more and more unlikely to vote for Democrats.

Personality Tests

There are hundreds of personality tests on the web. They’re fun to do, and are remarkably similar. I took a bunch recently, the results are posted below.
