Its time for the Perseids again. Every year, Earth swings through a cloud of debris left by a comet, and every year people expect a big show. Ever since I started watching them in my youth (round about 12 years old) they have always both excited and disappointed me, for two reasons. First, meteors look cool. Second, everyone expects a lot from the Perseids but they consistently underwhelm. But I’ll be in Arizona for this year’s show, just like every other one I’ve seen. That means that there is a 50% chance of the event being overcast by the monsoon rains. More after August 12th.

I rented Fatherland on tape the other day from the local Blockbuster. Short summary: Hitler wins WW2, President Joe Kennedy is about to come to town to make peace when a lone S.S. officer (Rutger Hauer) and an American reporter (Miranda Richardson) discover the Holocaust.

I found out the other day that I didn’t get a deer tag for this season. However, I still will be able to go out and get Thumper, Chip, and Dale. He He He. maybe next year I’ll put in for Deer and Antelope.
